Director Biography - Paul Uhlig

Paul Uhlig was born in 1984 in Hamburg Germany. His time in school was marked by a passion for languages, art, philosophy and most of all music. He was also active in the student counsel and spent six month in London to brush up his English skills. After a year of civilian service he attended the University of Hamburg, majoring in 'media studies', while continuing to work and make music on the side. With his band 'The Knights' he
recorded several LPs and EPs and toured Germany and the neighboring countries.
After achieving his Bachelor of Arts, he interned in four film productions with director Stephan Wagner, which prompted a shift in focus from music to movies. Producing several music videos for his band was the final spark igniting his love for filmmaking.
Since then he has been working as a freelancer first, and lately with his own production company, on over a hundred projects so far.

Director Statement

"The Tracks Behind Our House" is the eighth short film film realized by and with children from a refugee camp in Hamburg Germany. The project was started in 2015 as a volunteer project with an art class for children. In 2016 a first animation film was produced with the help of production company Yeahimakemovies. The underlying idea was and is to set the children a goal for their work and to give them the benefit of a genuine result, in order to boost their self-esteem.
With every subsequent film, the children became more involved and skilled - as of today providing artwork, costumes, props, voice-over, acting and story ideas for the films.
The project was supported by public and private development funds as well as by voluntary activity. Although the process of producing the film with the children is the main purpose of the project, it is a pity that the films haven’t been presented on the established festival platforms so far. We hope to entertain or perhaps even touch both a young and an adult audience.
