Sophia Bierend studies screenwriting for her master's degree at the "Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf" since 2018. In 2019 she worked as an assistant director on the Netflix series "Unorthodox" and the feature film „I'm Your Man".
She has also been working as an assistant for the acclaimed director Maria Schrader ever since. Getting to know Schrader's way of working was so pleasant and inspiring that she wanted to direct the short "The Taster" herself and is eager to direct more fiction projects in the future herself.

Margot Woelk was one of the fifthteen women who were forced to taste food for Adolf Hitler and his entourage, while they had their residency at the Wolfschanze (a quarter in a village close to the Polish village Görlitz). Margot Woelk was the only one who survived.
While Hitler was living in a constant fear that the British might could poison him, Margot always feared that she could die first – by tasting his food. After the war she never was able to eat food with enjoyment again.
The female tasters had to live like ghosts at the Wolfschanze. They weren't aloud to even get a glimpse of the leading SS-officers. Of course, maybe the men just didn't like to see the women as real persons, who might die to protect them. Margot said that she never saw Hitler, she only saw his German shepard dogs.
In our story it's different. It's a movie where one oft the most powerful man in Europe actually meets the most powerless woman – A woman so seemingly unimportant that she can be used as a protection shield, being more an object than a human being.
The loss of humanity is one of the aspects that I despise most about war. People are dived in being valuable and less valuable. It's extremley unfair and very dangerous to lose this humanity that really unites us all. It is sad to say that I see this kind of de-humanizing more and more in our society
As we follow our main character Ozana through the story we feel what it's like to be in her shoes, how hard it is to not lose yourself in this cruel system. But even though it would be easier to give in she doesn't lose her empathy, courage and humor.
