The Incomplete Tale of Satyaprakash Paramkovid

There comes a time in most lives when delusion and reality are at loggerheads, especially when living alone. As they say cities are where we are alone together, here is a film which blurs the lines of real and fantasy in the life of a writer who is working towards a deadline for completing his latest manuscript closing in on him in perhaps the times when he is losing his muse and mind. In the times of a pandemic this only spirals his adventures with his own mind.

Director Statement

This non scripted feature length film actually started with the simple need of cleaning Canon 1DX Mark II and Carl Zeiss CP2 Mini Prime lenses.

The story goes this way. I was marooned in my two-bedroom apartment, for the first time, on 24th March 2020 as India, along with the world, went in to an indefinite complete lockdown. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. But soon the boredom, doing the household work, connecting with the world on social media and watching Netflix endlessly, started setting in.

The real problem started when I realised, that the camera and the lenses, which I bought to fulfil my dream of making films, freely, might get rotten lying in the boxes. I haven’t used them since last 4 years, when I bought them.

I actually did not know how to run them. I was hoping to get a cinematographer friend to shoot my indie film, one day. Friends, I had many, but could never find a film to suit this equipment.

So, the camera and the lenses came out for their spa. Maintenance of machines are simple. Switch them on and run them for some time. I did that. But it just won’t start.

Accomplished, cinematographer friends were called for help. Thanks to lockdown, they all had all the time in the world to guide me through the workflow of this tiny but complex 1DX Mark 2. ISO, Aperture, white balance, frame rate and so on were explained by evening, when the camera revealed the first shot in 24MM. I loved it. Since one had nothing much to do during the run time of the shot, I decided to make myself useful… And Satyaprakash Paramkovid was born.

This eleven-month journey has been cathartic and joyful. “The Incomplete Tale of Satyaprakash Paramkovid” is now open to the audiences to be evaluated as a film. But what it has already proven to be is… a great teacher.
