The Symphony of Spring captures one family's proud tradition of the annual Maple Syrup Harvest in Quebec, Canada. The "symphony" refers to the beautiful harmonics created when the fresh sap drips into the buckets throughout the forest.

Director Biography - Asia Aniela Lis

I grew up in Poland in the city of Czestochowa. I always dreamed of becoming an independent woman. In 2011 I moved to New Jersey. I started experimenting with different styles of photography and took several classes at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. In 2015 I enrolled at New York Film Academy to study video editing. After a successful internship at Fresoil production company in NYC I started working as a junior video editor for Joe Cross, known for his Netflix hits ‘Fast , Sick Nearly Dead” and “The Kids Menu”. My journey continued in Los Angeles taking on a variety of projects as a photographer and editor. In 2018 I travelled to Costa Rica as a camera assistant to film the pilot “Osa Clandestina'' for the Discovery Channel. I ended up editing the pilot which received great reviews.. In 2019 together with my business partner Niko, a talented music composer, we started a production company, Grounded Production, based in California. The mission of the company is to shoot films that touch hearts and expand consciousness through authentic storytelling.
In the winter of 2020/2021, I moved to Canada and joined Timberline Alpine Academy in Banff, a school focused on outdoor adventure, conservation and film/photography. There I was focused on filming a short documentary called “Gap Year”, about the Timberline program. I collaborated with Niko, who composed an outstanding original score for the picture. .In 2022 I filmed brand videos representing female artists and entrepreneurs in Poland and Canada. Between August and October 2022 I submitted my feature documentary project Wolf Fairy to Sundance Collab and enrolled in an 8 week Documentary Filmmaking course.

I am always searching for stories that move me, get inspired by the light, nature,sound and people.

Director Statement

In 2022 I experienced my first maple harvest in Hudson, Quebec. Me and my husband visited Helen, his aunt, who runs the entire operation with a help of devoted volunteers from town, including her best friend Monique. Their friendship and excitement about the annual harvest sparked my enthusiasm to make the documentary in the spring of 2023. The maple harvest It's a long time family tradition and special time of the year, that brings the community together for a whole month. The "symphony" refers to the beautiful harmonics created when the fresh sap drips into the buckets throughout the forest.
