A primitive tribe Madia inhabits the forests of Dandakaranya region that spreads across Maharashtra and Chattisgarh. Living in seclusion for generations now, the tribe continues to follow their unique cultural and religious practices. The Story of Rela is a portrait of the Madia people, their traditions and their way of life.

Director Biography - Simit Ram Bhagat

Simit Bhagat is Mumbai-based documentary filmmaker and Founder of Simit Bhagat Studios, a creative agency for the third sector. In early 2019, Simit left his full-time job with an international NGO to pursue creative work. His first feature length documentary film ‘In Search of Bidesia' won the Best Music Documentary at the Royal Anthropological Film Festival, Britain in 2021.

As the director of "The Story of Rela," I am proud to present this intimate feature length documentary about the Madia tribe and their fascinating way of life.

This film takes us on a journey deep into the forests of Dandakaranya, where a primitive tribe called the Madia people has lived in seclusion for generations."The Story of Rela" provides a unique and personal look at the Madia people, their traditions, and their way of life.

In a world that is becoming increasingly globalised, the Madia tribe represents a rare and precious example of a culture that has been able to maintain its traditions and customs despite the many challenges it has faced. By documenting their story, we not only learn about this fascinating and little-known indigenous tribe, but also gain a deeper understanding of the importance of cultural preservation.

As a filmmaker, I am passionate about capturing and sharing stories that would otherwise go untold. Through this film, I aim to shed light on the Madia tribe and to inspire audiences to appreciate the beauty and value of diverse cultures around the world. The film will provide a captivating and enlightening experience for audiences and I am confident that it will leave a lasting impact on the audiences.
