The Steins

The Steins is the story of Casey, Jamie and Thomas Stein. It is the story of an all-night bender. It is the story of psychological terrors and trauma of aggressive parenting and broken homes. Childhoods are merely moulds for what humans will turn out to be. The experiences shape them. The trauma haunts them. The lessons grow them. The Steins is a reflection of all of the above, compiled into a sinister form of storytelling.

Director Statement

The Steins follow themes both personal and universal - complex family dynamics, tough-love parenting, desire for perfection, projection of insecurities, denial and neglect. It is a raw piece that is honestly brutal. This is a character-led story, driven by emotions and frustrations. It challenges you, the audience, to reflect on the power of parenting and how your parental figures played a role in the person you are today. Constructed from a foundation of various experiences, it is a note to parental figures out there as well to ourselves when we become one.
