The Song of Sisyphus
The short film depicts three Chinese women of different ages’ heartfelt monologue relevant to their memories, dreams, and realities. The director pieces together psychological activities and behavior orientation of these three women in the face of suffering, revealing the seemingly different but actually extremely similar fate of whom: unconscious evasion of contradictions. Three women with independent spiritual stopped questioning when they encountered fundamental problems——young female dancer chooses to keep dancing to stop thinking about why she’s dancing, middle-aged female writer chooses sleep as an escape from the predicament of writing, while the elderly women who lived through the Cultural Revolution seem to have given little thought to such a question: What caused her husband’s early death? and who decides her destiny?
