Ramesh is a farmer whose family used to be very affluent and influential. But now he is an orphan who has a small piece of land. Kusum's mother had set herself on fire because of the constant torturing by the villagers. She grew up orphan. When Ramesh marries Kusum and hopes to have a better future, things don't go according to the plan and in a series of events a cow is accidently killed. Now Ramesh has to live in exile as a part of the punishment. After his sentence gets over he has to perform sacred offering in the river and then invite the whole village for the death feast. Punishment has taken a toll on Ramesh and Kusum both. Slowly animals and human start to die in the village and people blame Kusum because of her past. Ramesh gets disturbed living in exile. Suddenly a pandemic hits the village and villagers had to flee. Having served his sentence Ramesh returns to the empty village like a king.
