“The Shipworkers. People of the background” is a documentary about former employees of the Gdańsk Shipyard, silent heroes of many historical events, which are crucial for Poland and the world. The film is an attempt to restore the memory about them and gives them a voice in the discussion about the intangible heritage associated with the Gdańsk Shipyard area.

Director Biography - Marek Osiecimski

Marek Osiecimski is a filmmaker, longtime reporter and foreign correspondent of TVN24. He reported from the conflict zones in Ukraine and the Middle East. His short documentary “Palestine is a Woman” (2017) won the Silver Award 2018 at the World Media Festival in Hamburg, Germany. His TV reportages and docs were nominated to prestigious journalism awards, such as Grand Press ("The Translators"), or Camera Obscura (“Please, forgive me Warsaw!”). His reportages on the influence of technology on lives of people – 'God’s Shale' (about fracking in the USA, 2014) and 'The Time Bomb on the Baltic' (about corrosion of chemical weaponry thrown to the sea after WWII, 2013) were among the most acclaimed. He also directs “Decent” feature-length film on the social impact of decentralized technologies.
