The Sentenced
During Iran’s recent “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement, thousands of protesters were arrested. Some of these protesters have been sentenced to death; and so far, seven of them have been executed.
On the morning of January 7th, 2023 the execution order of Mohammad Hosseini and Mehdi Karami was carried out. They were not given the right to choose their own lawyers, and there are reports confirming that they were forced to confess under torture.
This film captures their final moments, serving as a heart-wrenching tribute to the sacrifices made in the pursuit of freedom.
* Please note the final sound design and mix is still in progress and the sound for the above version which is available on Vimeo has not been mixed yet. By the end of June the final version of the film with proper sound mix will be available which will also include the DCP.

Arian Salarian, a Montreal-based filmmaker, was born and raised in Iran, where he developed a deep appreciation for art and storytelling from a young age.
Currently enrolled in the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema, as a filmmaker, Arian draws from his personal and cultural background to explore themes of identity, displacement, and human struggles in pursuit of freedom.
Arian's latest film, questions the concept of capital punishment. Following the recent events in Iran and unprecedented executions, "The Sentenced" invites the audience to accompany an innocent convict until the very last moment of life. Where each step towards death is accompanied with an appreciation of life that culminates.
