The Sensing Ensemble Compass - preview

A documentary-simulation about a Bar-Tailed Godwit named Feola, on her autumn migration to her wintering ground in the south, engaging with several other sensing entities along the way.

The film aims to talk about the proliferation of sensing technologies, how they not merely monitor environments but also create new ways of experience. The Amateur Scientist takes up the role as a mediator between natural systems and technological systems. In the context of bird migration, this film explores how emerging sensing technologies activate new relations between sensing entities such as The Bird, The Amateur Astronomer, The Earth's Magnetic Field, The Satellite, The Bird Watcher.
