The Rubbish World of Dave Spud: Donkey

Dave rescues an endangered donkey from the docks. Hiding it in the camper van, things take an interesting turn when the donkey eats Gran’s glasses. Unable to see, Gran ends up falling in love with the strapping stranger who has set up home in her camper.

Dave Spud. Just an ordinary kid. An average boy. AN UNWITTING CREATOR OF CHAOS.
Dave, our magnet for disaster, is a fighter against the odds and our unlikely hero. He knows that no matter how rubbish things get, there is always room for them to get worse. BUT BRING IT ON! For Dave and his Spud family are united – together they WILL prevail and do so with GUSTO!!! Side note: And be back in time for tea.

Director Statement

The series continues the thread in my work of a personal take on family life and the everyday - a family and their friends, united in a strong bond of 'we are in this together'. Living in the Spud’s world, you don't need to be particularly gifted, wealthy or have super powers to have the best adventure, but you do need to have a sense of humour.

Just like in real life, our cast of characters have different personalities, span across many generations and speak with a variety of accents; largely those from 'up North', where I grew up. The show embraces images that are not seen enough in animation, those that look or move around differently, pets with one eye, a friend who chooses to wear a box on his head, a sibling that just happens to use a wheelchair, a parent that sounds like and has the body hair of a bloke, and just very well might be, but who cares – that is mum regardless.

The Rubbish World of Dave Spud simply presents the everyday. I go that one step further however, and flip the ordinary on it's head, showing how quickly it can spin out of control and what great fun there is to be had with that.
