Michaela Betts wrote her song about an incident as a child. A time of lost innocence and unwanted attention. Through the use of AI animation, I wanted to portray these feelings, of unwanted darkness. The Rose music video was created in steps, by three women only. In the UK, Michaela and Chrissy filmed themselves dancing and singing in studio, on a phone. Chrissy designed choreography to fit the emotional power of the song.
The footage was sent to Australia and edited to the music, by me. I then used an AI program called Warpfusion, to convert the footage piece by piece, to animation. This was a lengthy process, that required many iterations and late-night renders, to establish a consistent style. I tried many types of AI Software, but warp gave the best creepy, morphing results. Inspired by the lyrics, I wanted to show a loss of innocence in the young figures and the encroaching wolves. Darkness is being imposed and also growing from within.
Getting interesting results from the AI software, required a lot of trial and error. Another program called EBSynth was used on Michaela’s face, to allow for good lip sync. Everything was assembled using Adobe After Effects and Topaz labs.
