The Roar
The film peers through the conditions of different social groups and their accusation, compromization, and pondering over their lives from the perspective of a taxi driver Huang and presents different issues in his daily family life; describing the disturbance from his wife’s point of view about the money and the marriage and all the absurd but real situation like how she turned to friend and god when facing difficulties; depicting his daughter’s troubles from the school, her boyfriend, her pregnancy and how she dealt with them in a seemingly mature but actually naive way.
The driver, his wife, and his daughter held their own secrets until he came across a robbery, smashing the peaceful illusion of his family and tempting the improper thought inside him.

Chan Chunhao majors in film making at the Department of Motion Picture of National Taiwan University of Arts. He has directed multiple short films and commercial productions. “The Roar” is his graduation project of the master degree and also his first feature film.
“The Roar” is a story about “stressful living” and it is not about the destitute people who are lack of material or food, but rather about the most common urban dwellers who hope for the lives that are better than making ends meet. These law-abiding people have their own fancy and desires, which agitate the society on and on. We all just want to live a little bit better, but in many cases, when we want it too bad, we tend to lose more. This sense of powerlessness reveals to us that the life doesn’t work the way we thought. Therefore, we look for change but also being afraid of change. The taxi driver in the film gained a chance to change his life. He picked up a gun by accident. How would he take the shot to the mess he lived in?
