The roads of Ae-rin and Woo-ryeong
26-year-old Heo Woo-ryeong, who graduated from college this year, suddenly lost her sight one morning in the year she turned 14. Even though her father took her all the way to Seoul from Naju, Jeollanam-do, and tried everything they could, she never regained her sight, The family fell into despair but the daughter worked hard to pull herself out of sadness. Woo-ryeong left the safety of her home and her family and started an independent life in Seoul by herself to become an anchorperson.
Mun Ae-rin, a disabled woman who was born with cerebral palsy in Moseulpo, Jeju-do Island, went out the front door for the first time when she was eight. As a child who couldn’t walk, that was the first time she became aware that there was a beach near her home. Ae-rin, who had once been a hermit and never left her home for over 20 years, has been fighting out in the street for the rights of the disabled to lead a normal daily life in which they can go out and take the subway to study or work then come home at night to rest. What these two women, Woo-ryeong and Ae-rin, want is the so-called normal life that we all take for granted but can lose any time for any reason.

Yi-Baek Lee.
She started to work as a documentary director and producer in 2016 and has produced various current affairs and human documentary programs such as <Street Banquet>, <Documentary 3 Days>, <Direct Current Affairs> and <Docu Insight>
Through these documentary programs, she has brought to light the stories of people who exist in our society but had been obscured in the shadow.
This is a story of two disabled women, who speak out to the world in different ways. 26-year-old Woo-ryeong, who can’t see but wishes to use her voice to interact with the world, takes on the challenge of the disabled anchorperson exam. Meanwhile, Ae-rin, who was born with brain lesions, started fighting for the rights of the disabled when she was 26 and has been continuing the fight for the past 20 years.
Although the times and the environment the two women have lived in are different, they both struggle to break free from the frame that society has been imposing on disabled people and make their own ways in this world. As we follow the challenges and struggles of these two women, I reflect upon whether our society is truly a place where everyone can live their lives.
