The Reveal

Dead set against having children, Zoe (Chloe Lanier) is dragged to a hipster gender reveal party in West LA by her boyfriend, James (Kevan McClellan). As the couple attempts to have a good time among their eclectic friends, the party morphs into a baby centric cult that unearths hidden resentments and unsung wishes that serve as a stress test for the young couples’ relationship.

Director Biography - Chloe Lanier, Kevan McClellan

Chloe Lanier is an Emmy winning actress making her writing and co-directorial debut with The Reveal. Originally from Dallas, she moved to Los Angeles after a stint on Army Wives. Since being on the west coast, Chloe has worked steadily in television, all the while discovering her passion for the production side. Chloe’s goal is to continue producing subversive and darkly comedic material in a highly collaborative environment. She hopes to give actors a platform in which to play against type. She currently has a show in development with her co-star, Hayley Erin.

Kevan McClellan is an actor and writer making his co-directorial debut with The Reveal. However, one could argue that he’s been directing his girlfriends’ self-tapes for years. Raised in Chicago, Kevan grew up creating characters based on his passion for people watching. Since moving to Los Angeles, Kevan has racked up numerous television credits. A huge fan of cinema, his focus has been on crafting projects that push the envelope, particularly in comedy. He is currently in-development with a feature film titled Danger Gods, about a 30-year-old WWE wannabee who becomes a backyard wrestling sensation.

Director Statement

As a couple for nearly eight years, we’ve found that certain things are expected or assumed of us: one, that we will get married; and two, that we will have children. The problem is that we are not sold on the ideas of marriage or kids. However, every time we express this, we’re met with comments from friends, family, and acquaintances, who state their belief that our minds will change over time. As women, we’re told we’re maternal, and that it’s considered “natural” to reproduce. As men, we’re told to “lock it down” and carry on our family name. While these are ideals for many people, we find humor in the fact that the aforementioned friends, family, and acquaintances tend to push these notions on others, as opposed to keeping these massive life-changing decisions to themselves… This is where the inspiration for our film was born. We wanted to construct something that dealt with serious life-altering decisions many twenty-somethings encounter and make it comical. Our favorites films tend to share a message with the audience without beating them over the head with it. The message sneaks up on you - or is revealed (pun very much intended) - over the course of the piece. That was our goal, and we hope that’s what’s been accomplished with The Reveal.
