Agustín, our writer and director from Chile, was always interested in how stories and images could impact an audience and evoke feelings.
He started in photography and then decided to follow film studies in Canada. As a director, his main goal is to create worlds and stories that touches audiences, creating an experience loaded with emotional content and interesting visual approaches.
For this project, he wanted to explore the nostalgic feeling of a distant chilhood, and how complex relationships can be... especially when we have to move away from the people we love, a feeling that has grown after leaving his home country.
“The Red Jacket” was born as a project to explore the grief that hunts us when we lose someone in our life, not only because of them passing away, but also because of simple life circumstances. In this film, we don’t just see the pain of loss, but also its consequences.
How loss affects our behavior and starts a chain of events until we finally move on. Stan’s character not just evokes empathy in us, but also anger for seeing the decisions and posture that he adopts, just creating more problems.
This story comes from my childhood experience, I lived all my life in the same small town, and this deep roots were always tough when I had to leave. This film is a living memories of those “goodbye moments” that none of us want to have.
As a first time directing, it was a beautiful experience to bring a team together and coordinate every department to get ready for the shoot. Once on set, working with the cast and seeing all our work merging and supporting itself was really inspiring . After this production I can’t wait to keep telling stories.
