Writer Biography - Solomon Watkins

I am a screenwriter / Sound recordist based in London from Cornwall. I first got into media doing radio programming at school and wokring as an underwater videography dive asisstant in collage, but then i thought fuck it and became a sugar baby for a few years and travelled to 139 countries. That opportunity was short lived so i decided to attend London Southbank University and study the Film Practice BA (hons). I was so dedicated to making my own films that I actually attended a portion of university living in a tent so that I could faster save for film equipment. Currently i have a sneaky day job where I get away with doing very little and am able to write scripts from there, but I also work recording for low budget horror movies on Tubi and vertical dramas on Drama Box! and even have a short documentary with Together Tv!

The Ragefit Showcase is a super cool concept which I wanted to dive into to build a world where we juggle whether violence is something we need or not, looking at it from a more accepting angle. It's a Darkly drawn near future speculative action drama which raises the question 'can we just invent our way out of anger issues?' which is an unnervingly realistic approach to happen given how unaccepting our society is when it comes to funding and encouraging mental health care. One of the nicest people I have met in my life died along with their child, and while I don't know exactly how, a lot of people speculate it was due to anger issues and maintain an air that they caused it, but I knew this person well, and I knew what they struggled with and would never let anyone speak bad about them or disrespect them in their unfortunate passing. I believe the events happened because our society is a bit shit, and looking back at which friends from school did die young, it was mostly suicide and it was mostly people who at some point were expelled from school. As an adult, I hold those in charge at those schools accountable for the deaths because there is a connection between suicide and mishandling of the educational system which we cannot ignore. I had never written an action film before, so of course I watched Crank. It was really fun writing the fight scenes, but it was doing this that i realised that fight scenes which were all just a dream and don't have any consequences aren't that enticing, and that actually, This script is logistically the complete opposite of Crank, following someone desperately trying to carry out violence while keeping their nerves cool and their adrenaline low, which in a weird way came out much darker , scarier and cold.
