Jasmin Beatrice Hirtl, born 1985, lives in Austria.
She graduated in Digital Television at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences and Fine Arts at the University of Art and Design in Linz, with periods of study abroad at the University of the Basque Country (ES) in Drawing and Design and at Southampton Solent University (UK) in Film Studies. She works as an independent filmmaker as well as a visual artist with a focus on the media of photography, drawing and painting. Her debut feature film You(pl) and Me premiered in the Newcomer category at the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival.
Jasmin discovers her self-determination. She lives alone at Lake Attersee and is waiting for the one. But it‘s not just about love for her, but also about the need to be desired as a sexual being. But what does that mean? To be an object of pleasure, an object of desire?
For Jasmin, eroticism, sensuality and the game with power and dominance are new. At the same time, she is shaped by classic role models of her society of origin and the narratives of longing in her dime novels, in which the man has financial means and the woman develops within a radius defined by him.
In the confrontation with Markus, for whom sex and eroticism are simply business and
pastime, she is asked to stand up for herself as a woman with her own principles. To defend her boundaries, to demand appreciation and respect. Jasmin may not be worldly and not socially modern, but she still knows that human dignity is inviolable. That a woman, even if she is sexual and invites you to an erotic game, must be valued and respected.
But Jasmin does not stand for prosecution. Markus may behave impossibly, but she doesn‘t just see this behavior. She understands that a person is not only good or bad. She fights,
forgives and gives new chances. This is also an expression of self-determination.
