The Protest

Kaohsiung MRT foreign workers scandal that occurred on August 21, 2005 is the most internationally-acclaimed and most influential case of foreign labor resistance since Taiwan began to hire foreign workers.

Thai workers hired for the job rioted to protest bad working conditions. On the night of the incident, the Thai workers claimed that an administrator had beaten three of them with electric shock rods, causing more than 1,700 thai workers to provoke anger, they burned down the management center and destroyed a dormitory under construction.

But fifteen years later, when we interviewed several thai workers currently working in Taiwan, they knew nothing about the issue ...

Director Biography - 許慧如HSU Hui-Ju

有時候是導演，更多的時候是兩個孩子的媽。作品時常透過家庭或特定的場域去理解生命經歷苦痛的意義，以安靜的凝視洞悉人存在於世的荒謬，從極冷的調子裡映照出另一種溫柔。
Sometimes filmmaker, most often mother of two children. Her films often explore life and death. Using a quiet gaze to gain an insight on the absurdity of life on earth, she tries to review the meaning of our suffering in the context of family, from a cold and distant tone, eventually project another kind of tenderness.
