The Promotion is a 1-page script written specifically for Film Festivals that seek 1 or 2-minute short-films, with a plot that can be extended to a horror feature-length. The Promotion was inspired by the film The Cube (1997), and it mirrors the business-like society we're living in and its superficial values.
This is obviously taken to the extreme when one of the richest men in the world - an absent character who is mentioned but never seen - plans to offer all his money to the last standing employee, turning the office space into a survival game, with a surprising twist in the end. The idea behind this short is to rethink life in modern society, where we're lead by our goals and ambitions and yet still ruled by an invisible hierarchy, an unseen "boss" that commands our entire world almost religiously. In the end, should we trust this man, is there a real promotion or are we just entertainment? Their job title is never mentioned, and this is intended for a more philosophical reflection, such as in what is our purpose in the world or if there is one, and how much value has life itself?
