The Project Principle: Enter The Void

Business from the outside can make it seem like you've 'got it all'. Especially when it allows you to travel the world and live a life with choice.

But what happens when two 'twenty something' businessmen accidentally peel back the layers of their 'filtered' lives they present to the world?

What happens when they question things so deeply, they find there's no turning back from what they eventually discover about themselves?

This is the side of business no one was meant to see.

This is the side of 'success' we often try to hide.

Dare to enter the void?

Director Statement

- Steve Claydon (Producer's Statement) -

What was meant to be a documentary about the future of work and business growth soon turned into a personally exposing journey of fear, doubt and insecurity.

The concept was simple; take a two week sabbatical away from my young family, Australia and the day-to-day running of my companies to cowrite my 6th business book with my now business partner, Darcy J Smyth. "The Project Principle" as the title.

The destination was Germany for two reasons:

1. The rich blend of history and innovation that Germany offers as a source of inspiration.
2. The exploration of my family ancestry as a foundation of self awareness.

This combination, paired with unexplainable dejavu, lead to unexpected and deep self reflection of what success truly means.

In a world where fame and fortune is the prize and an ‘Instagram worthy’ life is coveted, is it possible that we have missed the point of what it means to be truly successful?

It’s comforting to know that this can be redefined. If only we are brave enough to enter the void.

- Matt Gall (Director's Statement) -

I’ve never made a documentary film, and before being asked to make this one the thought had not been on my mind. It made me extremely anxious to think about directing a project that I could not plan out thoroughly beforehand. But, as is proclaimed by the stars of the film, I too, surrendered and chose to enter the void. Choosing to let ‘it’ be whatever it was destined to be, and through this process, created a film that I am extremely proud of.

All I can hope is that viewers take away the same message. Life is not what is on the outside or thoroughly planned and engineered to be a certain way. The magic of life comes from surrendering to the void and just letting it happen.
