The Present

On the Ilha do Açaí, where a community of Baré indigenous people live in the middle of the Rio Negro of the Amazon basin, children learn to make toy boats as a way to prepare themselves for the immense rivers that surround them. When Maciel -- 11 years old -- received his little cousin on a visit from town, he decided to make a present for her. A beautiful, tranquil film showing the wonder of childhood in the deep Amazon.
