The Plague

A small coastal town in Maine has an ancient curse on it, and is crippled by an inexplicable plague, only revealed when a stranger comes to town and awakens the spirits who dwell there. A murder brings a Native American detective from the Rez to investigate and she is endowed with certain gifts that drives her pursuit of the murderer. In the end, the cure was in reach of the townspeople all along. They just needed to look within themselves.

Writer Biography - Jon Michael Ferreira

Jon began his career in the theater at the age of ten, and went on to earn a BA in Theater Education from Point Park University, a BFA in Acting from Emerson College, and an MFA in Directing from Illinois State University. A lifelong cinephile, it was only a matter of time before Jon turned his attention to film. He uses his theatrical background to write engaging screenplays that are character-driven and well-plotted. Unlike the physical restraints of the theater, his scripts are written through the eyes of a director, with a visually arresting style and shots composed like a painting come to life. Writing and directing his own films has allowed Jon to explore all his various interests, while assembling teams of talented artists to collaborate with and shape a story together. He collaborates with a writing partner to come up with the story, but writes the screenplays himself.

I am passionate about telling engaging stories that entertain, while also commenting on the world and illuminating issues of social justice, the environment, and income inequality. My aim as an artist is to bridge cultural divides, and bring adversarial communities together through dialogue and identifying shared values. My work blends genres, and defies easy classification. As a visual director, my screenplays have extensive stage directions and truly set a mood.
