The Patron is my thesis individual project for my degree, and it is also my first time directing a short film. The focus is on empathy in cinema and how it is utilised to manipulate the audience's emotions. I collaborated with my dear friend Matt on the script and then formed an incredible team of cast & crew to bring the script to life. The Organ Grinder (pub featured in the film) became a regular spot for me during my time at university, where I always found the contrast between students' and locals' personalities intriguing. The film juggles tropes from a variety of genres, including comedy and horror. I hope to explore the lead character in more depth in a future project, as I feel he has a lot to offer still.
