THE PATH TO BETRAYAL

PILOT EPISODE ONE

SYNOPSIS.

TITLE: BACK TO THE BEGINNING. The YEAR 2000

FIRST SECTION,

The first scene is a crowded pub in Northern NSW, Australia. In a corner sit two men in their fifties. One is fit the other not so. Steve Roberts, one of the main characters, is the fit one. The other is Johno, Steve's boss. When Johno gets into an altercation with a gang of thugs, Steve intervenes. Although both Johno and Steve are hurt, Steve inflicts injuries on dozens of young men, putting many of them in hospital.
A barmaid, named Justine, looks after Steve, they become lovers. He tells her his life story.
Steve decides to try and clear his name. He contacts his Unit leader, Ali Murstaffer, who like Steve, wants to clear his name. Ali tells Steve he will contact the others, arranging to meet in New York. On the plane to New York, Steve remembers how all this mess started.

MIDDLE SECTION, YEAR 1985.

Steve Roberts is doing his final mission to join the SAS. He wins through, impressing the SAS
Colonel and a visiting American Colonel, there to observe the exercise. Steve takes the American Colonel, up on an offer to join an American Unit he is forming. The SAS Colonel, and the RSM, are unhappy about the posting but orders are orders. Steve travels to America, meeting Michelle, his future wife. Arriving, he goes through intensive training. The volunteers are reduced, to two teams of five. Steve is in the first of these two teams. The American Colonel, wanting the best five-man team, sends them on their first mission.

FINAL SECTION.
Steve, arrives in Singapore, the staging area for their mission. Ali, now Steve is there, explains the mission. A General who tortured the prisoner during the war in Vietnam is their primary target. The secondary target is an ammunition dump; the General is selling illegal weapons from the Black market. The Unit had purchased, an old Vietnamese patrol boat and supplies for the trip in Singapore. Obtaining weapons is their problem. They must use weapons other than American, so they must purchase them, from one of the Triad gangs in Singapore.
Mr Lou, controls one of these operations, although the Unit suspects a trap, once they pay. In the end, they surprise, Mr Lou and receive their weapons. Mr Lou, after the attack, has great respect for their professionalism. The Unit ready leaves for Vietnam.
