The Passion of Javier
Peru, early sixties. Javier Heraud, a passionate and nonconformist literature student, confronts his father, who opposes his vocation for poetry. In university, Javier meets Laura, with whom he falls in love, as well as a group of young poets and intellectuals with whom he passionately delves into the world of poetry and politics. The conflict with his father intensifies when Javier publishes his first poetry book “The River” and is invited to a youth-forum in the Soviet Union as a delegate for the leftist political movement to which he belongs. Javier is stunned by the Soviet Union and visits Paris, where he meets with a young Mario Vargas Llosa and shares insight on the Cuban Revolution, when it is in full bloom. Already convinced that a revolution is the only path to eliminate inequality in Latin America, destiny takes Javier to Cuba to study filmmaking. There, he becomes fascinated with the accomplishments of the revolution and decides to be consequent with his ideals, abandoning his studies and enrolling, together with other Peruvians, in a guerrilla group with the goal of taking the revolution to Peru.
