The Pamphlet
October 1944. Allied forces determine to destroy the sea-dikes of the Netherlands. Their first target is the coastal village of occupied Westkapelle. Pamphlets warning the citizens of the impending danger fall into the hands of two young lovers on a secret rendezvous in the dunes. They rush back to their homes to sound the alarm. Janna desperately tries to convince her over-protective father of this time-sensitive message. Her mother's recent death has worsened the communication with her father, and he refuses to budge. Meanwhile her lover Willem seeks refuge and safety elsewhere. The personal drama heightens as Janna and her father seek a final compromise, but the danger is already too close.

Justin Heyl (1986) is Dutch filmmaker/photographer born in Pretoria (South Africa). He was raised in the media capital of the Netherlands, Hilversum. As a young cub he was always attracted to anything that had to do with film.
During his education at Audiovisual Media Studies at the HKU, he started directing films and commercials together with his brother Joel Heyl. Justin as a director and producer, Joel as editor in chief. In this time period Justin founded Action Reaction Productions. Over the span of nearly a decade they have released various shorts under the guise of The Heyl Brothers (Carnivore (2012), Retina (2016), Stilte Opname (2017) and The Pamphlet (2022). Their films were shown at numerous film festivals and have been awarded in the Netherlands and abroad.
What is unique about his filmmaking is that he is not afraid to mix styles and experiment. Where one thinks big, Justin Heyl thinks bigger. His films need in his own words a certain “epicness” and they must move and overwhelm an audience. What are we else to do at the movies but to enjoy ourselves?
