The Other Side of Learning: A Deeper Conversation About Education in the US
"The Other Side of Learning: A Deeper Conversation About Education in the US" combines interviews with students, parents and teachers in varying educational settings to discuss how we educate our youth in the United States today. This film dives into what is working and what isn't in our learning environments and explores an alternative learning community, a POD school, in Asheville, North Carolina, where students are thriving within a different learning model. The Academic Learning POD centers around its own rubric which includes building COMMUNITY, helping students find their VOICE, PROJECT-CENTERED learning, INDIVIDUALIZED guidance in Math & English and integrating TECHNOLOGY for CREATIVE rather than consumptive uses.

Wo Baza is a filmmaker with a background in commercial video production, content creation, & photography. Wo is based out of North Carolina, by way of Washington D.C/P.G County, Maryland. For the last decade, Wo has written, filmed, edited and produced story-telling video content for clients, and now is creating his own cinematic stories and collaborating with amazing individuals like Producer Lisa Smith.
I directed this film because "children are our future". "Education in the U.S is failing" and the individuals who care and have the resources to do something about it, should. Lisa Smith (Producer/Educator) reinforces that message everyday with the work that she does, and I personally want to communicate that message to anyone who is willing to listen. Education affects us all, no matter the community, and it's a topic we can all discuss.
