The Other Side

An exploration of the life, lessons, and effects of homelessness within the local Ann Arbor population through personal stories. The film focuses on telling stories in a way that is not politically or socially motivated but rather in a way that is universally human.

Director Statement

In the spring of 2022 I was working on a poetic documentary for one of my college courses. I decided to drive an hour north toward the city of Ann Arbor for inspiration. While I was there, I met a homeless man by the name of James. I quickly learned that Jason was a stage four cancer patient who was discharged from the hospital only a few hours prior. He introduced me to some of his friends where I learned some of their stories. Ever since that day, I have tried to better understand what the homeless population goes through and explore ways to “humanize the homeless."
