Director Biography - Ken Kimura

Ken Kimura is a cinematographer and director. Raised in Australian from Japanese and Chinese decent, he developed a love of movies and eclectic tastes early on. He was raised on Jackie Chan beat-em-ups, Hayao Miyazaki animations and Australia cult classics like The Castle and Mad Max (1979).

While studying at film school, Ken directed and edited the short film Warranty that screened at Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival. An invaluable experience where he won the Grand Jury Prize (Qantas Short Film Competition). This would lay the foundation for his path into filmmaking. He'd go on to work as a documentary filmmaker in Sydney collaborating with the likes of Google, LinkedIn and MYOB. It's here he fostered his more intimate, human centric approach to creating films.

Ken was an Executive Producer on Head Count starring Ryan Kwanten that is set to be released later this year via Shout Factory in the US. Ken recently edited A Stretching Moment which won Best Short Feature at the Chicago Script Awards and was selected by the Indie Eye Film Awards and Tokyo International Festival. Director Statement

I've never felt like the main character in life. I preferred to be benched, I was not first in line and best believe I was not the life of the party. But when it comes to defending those I love and championing what I believe in, I rise to the occasion.

I wanted to offer a new perspective. In film, rarely have we seen the 'support' guys front and centre. I wanted to steer away from the 'Tom Cruiseses' and 'Matt Damons' of the world and revamp the age old narrative of heist-gone-wrong. The expectation is that the guy with the laptop on his own is cannon fodder. I disagree. I believe many who choose the quieter route when forced off the beaten track have fight in them yet. The Other Guy asks audiences when called to action what will they do?
