The Metamorph

A child shapeshifter longs for a best friend, but their involuntary form changes leave them unrecognizable to any friends they do make.

Tyler has struggled to control their morphing abilities their entire 9-year-old life. Unable to be recognized by anyone they knew prior, they reside alone near a public park. They meet a boy named Sam, hoping to form a friendship with him that won't end as soon as they transform again.

Director Biography - Maximillian Remmler

Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Maximillian Remmler has been making films since the age of 9. He received his masters in film at Stony Brook University under the guidance of Christine Vachon (Killer Films). By day an editor, by night a film professor.

He's clearly indecisive and can never settle on one genre because he's made dramas, comedies, action, horror, experimental films, and animations. He currently has 13 short films under his belt and is working on his debut feature.

You can find him replaying the same four seconds of a YouTube video over and over because he can't stop laughing at that one part.

Director Statement

"The idea for The Metamorph was one I had from the most well-known method among creatives, through a dream. Even the film's title was taken straight from that dream. I woke up at 3am that morning and immediately started writing.

I'm very drawn to stories with slight fantastical elements on top of our familiar reality, often posing as challenges rather than advantages. This film is no exception; watch Tyler the Metamorph wrestle with their reflexive transformations at the least opportune of times.

Need a heartfelt family friendly tear-jerker for your film festival? Look no further!"
