The Memoir

The mystery of how two souls were connected through Buddhist belief in reincarnation. A strong spiritual connection between Praew and Ploy was manifested by their reunion in Sukhothai - the first documented capital of Thai Kingdom and UNESCO World Heritage Site. For over 700 years, their ancestors had committed in creating cultural heritage through local wisdoms. The return of Praew to Sukhothai of the current era recalled her memory through the beauty of arts and crafts preserved by the real local heroes in Sukhothai. The memoir of her past life was engraved in the valuable locally made assets of Sukhothai hidden along the journey, such as goldware, handwoven fabrics, Sangkalok ceramics, Thai alphabets and Buddhism. Eventually, Ploy fulfilled Praew’s journey to collect fragmented pieces of her memory until Praew realised how much she fell in love in Sukhothai. The memoir expressed de-labelled definition of love that transcends normative forms of relationship and seamlessly integrated unique Thai performing arts “Chui Chai” with famous historic attractions. The theme music was newly composed to resonate “the sound of heritage” in Sukhothai.

This film was produced as part of the research project to explore how sustainable storytelling can be created and how transmedia platforms can be used to create the love of the town, not only for visitors but also for local people regardless of their generations. Creativity of the theme, plot and storyline was cultivated through a collaborative journey shared among film producers, researchers, and local authorities and local people and network.
