Director Biography - Nikki Groton

Nicole grew up in sunny and humid South Florida where she discovered her love of both film and sushi. After graduating with honors from the prestigious Florida State University’s Film School, Nicole moved to Los Angeles to pursue her passion of writing and directing.

It was there she started her career as Creative Executive to producer Keri Selig (STEPFORD WIVES, THREE TO TANGO) at Intuition Productions. There Nicole developed and produced new projects, both scripted and non-scripted, including a TV Special for TLC where she served as Field Producer. She soon focused more on writing and directing as she single-handedly wrote and directed numerous sizzle reels and sales tools, many of which sold to both production companies and networks alike.

After working at Intuition Productions, Nicole accepted a job at Bryan Singer's company Bad Hat Harry Productions ("House," X-MEN Franchise) where she worked for the President Jason Taylor. She used her time at such a prestigious company to learn the ins and outs of a big-budget film from the director's point of view.

Just recently, Nicole began working for Emmy nominated producer Gavin Polone ("Curb Your Enthusiasm," ZOMBIELAND) at the production company Pariah.

Additionally, Nicole has written and directed two short films, one of which made its premiere at the LA Femme Film Festival. One of Nicole's most prestigious accomplishments is no doubt the feature documentary she produced and directed, THE MELTING FAMILY. Working on a bare bones budget and minimal crew, Nicole spent over five years compiling archive footage and interviews before even beginning the post-production process. A personal film that follows her extended family of divorces and remarriages, the film just had its world premiere at DOC NYC. Currently, Nicole is in pre-production as producer, writer and director for her first narrative feature film, MARRYING KINDS. The film is an offbeat romantic comedy that follows a romantic but realistic couple as they navigate their way through the horrors of spending one weekend at three weddings. A sarcastic take on the romantic comedy (a la OBVIOUS CHILD), the film explores what young romance truly means in the world of app-dating and social media pressures.
