Director Biography - Nicholas Kerekes

I began making movies when I was a kid. In fact, I can’t remember a time where cinema wasn’t the center of my existence. I love the world of film and hope to contribute to it for years to come.

For years the concept of serial killers being celebrities has both fascinated and terrified me. Over time my ideas on how to express this has evolved and developed into the film you see today.

Going back to Psycho, the fear was the idea that evil could invade our most private and personal spaces. Suddenly we had to consider that our own bathroom wasn’t safe. Thinking about our world now, we are inundated with this fear. It comes to us in the podcasts we listen to, the books we read and the news and films we watch.

For me, the concept of what was scary about Psycho has grown and changed. Now it is not just our physical space that is threatened. It is our thoughts, our time and attention and even the very concept of truth. I wanted to create a film that was a meditation on these ideas and asks us to consider how media and art can be used against us by evil men.
