The Malicious Gossip (A Bhutanese Culture Kharam Shing or Phallus)
Kharam Shing or Phallus is a belief in the Bhutanese Society that it protects families, wealth, farms, and domesticated animals from Malicious Gossip (Kharam).
This system of hanging phallus around the house and drawing paintings is a culture that has been followed for a very long time in Bhutan. however, with modernization, this culture has been dying and with this Art Flim, we hope to enable viewers around the globe to understand more about “kharam or malicious" and the beliefs about Phallus.
Synopsis
The video starts with a happy scene where the main actor (father) is craving a phallus and later on when his son asks him about the thing he is making. He then goes back to a flashback where his mother falls sick after a group of village women talks maliciously, behind her back. The main actor then decides to go to a lama and later finds the cause of his mother's sickness to be kharam or malicious. He then goes to a layman with a help from a villager who can do kharam or malicious rituals and days later after performing and installing phallus at his house, his mother gets well and then they live a happy life.
Present-day after he is done sharing, he is called by his wife. He leaves with all his crafting equipment and his son takes his father's place, taking his father’s carving tool he decides to carve a phallus on his own and to take the legacy further and makes it a habit to wear the phallus on his neck. Giving the idea of how a legacy can be taken further away by the younger generations and how important phallus is.

I have always been interested in Videography and direction. However, with the limited opportunities in Bhutan, I could never see myself shining but don't let that stop you from grabbing further opportunities and keep looking beyond your boundaries
