The Making Of 'People Come & Go' by Flash Gordon & The Pundits

In 1999 Flash Gordon & The Pundits played their last concert of the 20th Century at Club More. Club More was the venue I started with a history of live music events in my woodworking shop at the same location in Clearwater way back in the ‘80s. That show from 1999 was recorded for posterity. Sometime in early 2019 I was driving around listening to the songs we played that night. I contacted The Pundits and asked if everyone would be interested in taking four of these songs to the studio. In 2008 - 2009 The Pundits had reunited for three shows but we hadn’t played together since then. As they were in 2008 - 9, each of The Pundits pledged “if everyone else wants to do it, I’ll do it”. After a few months of delays, in June of 2019, Flash Gordon & The Pundits got together for the first time and started working the four songs. A few rehearsals later those four songs were recorded with Steve Connelly at Zen Recording in Pinellas. Since it went so well, I asked The Pundits if they would be interested in working on a few newer songs to complete a full length album. Again, it was “one for all, all for one”.

In October of 2019, the first rehearsal for one of those newer songs began and a lot was accomplished with great enthusiasm for this song ‘Too Many People Dying (That I Know)” (Track1). Ten days later there was a fire in the woodshop and my business (the rehearsal space for The Pundits) was shut down for almost three months. When the rebuild was complete and the power was back on, the holidays came along and then a pandemic swept the world. In June of 2020, Flash Gordon & The Pundits finally resumed work on ‘Too Many People Dying (That I Know)” after 231 days had passed. That song was taken to Zen and recorded and then work began on two more and then another. Recording was completed on Tracks 1 through 8 and postproduction was underway. Track 9 was recorded in 2012 and remixed by Steve Connelly and Track 10 was recorded back in 1994 and also remixed by Mr. Connelly for this release. January 2021 Flash Gordon & The Pundits have completed ‘People Come & Go’.

Director Biography - Flash Gordon

Flash Gordon wrote his first song in the sixth grade for a elementary school tree planting of a Maple sapling. Since then he has written and recorded one hundred and fifteen songs with his various bands. Hundreds of other songs are half written. In the reckless summer of '79, Flash OD-ed and was approaching the white light at the end of the tunnel, but was called back by a film critic for the St. Petersburg Times. Even though his calling was obviously film, it took another twenty years or so until Flash made his first musical documentary that is still unreleased (needing a bit more editing but possibly shelved permanently). In 2008 Flash started directing a new documentary, The Pundits Reunion, that has been seen on YouTube since it's completion in 2009. This newest film 'The Making Of People Come & Go' is really more of the same theme about musicians, getting together and creating original music.
