The Long February - The russian Occupation of Bucha
This documentary tells the tragic story of Bucha, which was occupied at the beginning of the russian invasion of 2022. The focus is on the church choir of Saint Andrij Church. The church that became world famous because of the mass grave in front of it. A member of the choir, Andriy Schipilo, was murdered in cold blood along with his parents by Russian occupiers.
This film gives the inhabitants of Bucha space to share their personal experiences. Gives them a voice. This film also wants to tell the stories of the murdered, which the Western public only knows as anonymous reports in the headlines of the media. The murdered are given back their identity and their dignity.
This film was particularly important to the German-Ukrainian filmmaker Michael Stadnik, and the production was especially close. Stadnik's relatives had to flee from Irpin, the neighbouring town of Bucha, and were in immediate danger. This production is one of the most emotionally difficult films of his work.
