The filmmakers Kimberly Hilgers and Marlena Opalka both studied media engineering at Hochschule Düsseldorf – University of Applied Sciences. During their studies they concentrated on the video engineering and audio-visual media field. Making films became a passion, especially with a social aspect.
Therefore they created three cutout animation films with Prof. Isolde Asal in cooperation with childcare services in Düsseldorf in a project called KIDS 'N TRICKS. These award-winning animated short films give children from socially disadvantaged situations a chance of telling their stories and difficulties in everyday life. Additionally, Kimberly and Marlena produced a social spot against the exclusion of people with Parkinson's disease as their bachelor’s project in cooperation with the German Parkinson's Association (Deutsche Parkinson Vereinigung e.V.). „The Little Red Car“ was awarded with a special prize in the context of the Charity Video Award.
Today, Kimberly is working as a motion designer in Düsseldorf. Marlena moved to Stuttgart to be a film production assistant.
