Sam Centrella is a writer and director based in Brooklyn, NY. Sam directed and co-wrote his debut feature "The Life of Peter Gottlieb,” which will premiere in 2023. Sam's first play “Nutley'll Be There Tomorrow” premiered at The New York Theatre Festival at the Teatro Latea in Manhattan. He recently directed a short film written by Andy Polk, starring Hank Azaria and Kelly McAndrew. In 2017, Sam co-founded Tookany Creek Productions with fellow collaborators Reuben Barsky and Giorgio Panetta.
Sam focuses primarily on narrative storytelling in film and on stage. He likes larger than life characters, visceral acting and quotable dialogue. Music means the world to him, and is an important part of all his work.
I made this film with my two best friends from acting school because we love the same movies, we laugh at the same jokes and have the same story to tell. I am interested in unconventional love stories that reflect our experience. We're Cassavete's influenced, blue-collar hopeless romantics.
We're three men who love intense art. Reuben Barsky not only stars as Peter Gottlieb but also composed and performed all of the music for the film. Giorgio Panetta not only stars as Detective Reno, but was also instrumental at building out sets in his father's construction company's warehouse in Paterson N.J. My parents lent me their house to shoot in Brick N.J.
From the sets to the sounds, this movie is us. It's a truly authentic film, with our voice, our writing and our storytelling.
We hope you enjoy, more to come from Tookany Creek Productions.
