The Lie of You: Not Another PSA

Despite being forewarned VERNA aka VEE (Female/ 30s/silent threat with a kind heart but don't test her) succumbs to the charm and subtle manipulation of RAY (Male/30s)- a charming sociopath who underestimates the wrong prey.
When the marriage ends in murder, Vee enlists her spirited cousin AALIYAH (Female/30s/calculating and connected) a shrewd attorney who can call in a few shady favors.

In act one, we join a frazzled Vee on a call to
her cousin Aaliyah with her abusive husband Ray's corpse in the back of her SUV. She is oblivious to the fact that someone is following her.

In the rising action, we unpack Ray and Vee's first encounters and witness the progression of mental, emotional and physical abuse.
We observe Ray's tactics to pressure and manipulate Vee into marriage. We also meet his "mother" Rose who is obsessed with Ray having an heir. As Ray isolates Vee he begins a shift into physical, emotional and mental abuse.

In the last act, Aaliyah leverages her contacts to help Vee get rid of Ray's body, but Rose arrives- forcing a final showdown. In the aftermath we learn about the true nature of Ray's relationship with Rose - and another woman- desperate to find Ray.

Filmmakers have the power to make people feel. If you can elicit emotions like sadness, anger and frustration; you also have the potential to induce compassion, empathy and understanding. Visual storytelling is the most effective way to generate a proverbial walk in the shoes of another. There is also the power to inspire and present a call to action. I truly believe that is the greatest impact I can make, and I am confident that I will. I come from generations of strong women who couldn’t afford to quit so It’s not in my DNA.
