Kwame is a Nairobi-based writer, illustrator, animator, director and producer. He is well known for his children's books A Tasty Maandazi, I Love Ugali and Sukuma Wiki and The Yummiest Githeri. Kwame is passionate to offer stories from the Africa that is often not shown; positive and uplifting narratives that span the continent's past, present and exciting future.
Kwame has been involved in various animation training and production initiatives such as UNESCO's Africa Animated! Project, which trained over 40 African animators across the continent with an internationally acclaimed curricula, and Tinga Tinga Tales, a children's animated series for Disney and BBC that was produced in Kenya.
Kwame's well regarded animated shorts The Legend of Lwanda Magere and, The Legend of Ngong Hills, have won many awards worldwide, including the prestigious LA Shorts International Film Festival, for their exploration of using animation to tell African folklore. In 2017 and 2018 Kwame was on the team that bagged awards at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in France for The World's Most Eligible Bachelor, a digital campaign supporting northern White Rhino conservation in Kenya.
Kwame’s current projects include Braintrust Productions' 'Twende' a 7+ 2D action comedy in development where he serves as an Executive Producer. The 'Twende' pilot was selected for competition in TV Films at Annecy 2021. Kwame also serves as a co-creator on Frogboy a 7+ 2D action drama in development with Apes in Space animation.
Kwame latest film 'The Wonderful Story of Aisha Ali and Flipflopi, The Multicoloured Dhow Boat' has been selected in competition at Annecy 2021 in the Young Audiences Category, the first ever Kenyan short film selection at Annecy.
