The Last Letter
SESH CHITHI’s literal translation comes to as the “The last letter”. It is a metaphor. The film although at least visually,is about a son and the struggle of his mother to boost his confidence. But the bigger picture. The situation is an ongoing struggle which has plagued a lot of people in this so called City of Joy since the start of the 1970's. The film although set in the time period of the late 1990’s is still very much prevalent in today’s Kolkata. The fact of non employment or incapability of finding a life partner is all but a micro problem linked to a major one.
The problem of future planning, the incapability to break out of the bubble of disbelief which many still choose to live in has become a nature in the lives of many individuals. The lack of confidence has blinded them to the opportunities that could have made a difference in their lives and the ones that they loved. The terrible acceptance has become a part of Revu’s (My protagonist) daily routine. The film is a last try of a dying mother and her push although might be considered unethical to boost her son before her heavenly journey. The last option she seemed fit not calculating the consequences.
Because after all when is a mother’s love conventional or rational?
