The Last Hour
Zadnja ura is an animated short film, which became an exploration of symbolic immortality, the materiality of death, grief, and the vivid recollections of those who have passed held within the heart of my beloved grandmother. Through a tapestry of emotions, symbolism, sound, and illustration, I seek to capture the enduring bonds between the living and the departed. The narrative unfolds in both linear and non-linear sequences. The linear portion is establishing an overarching ambiance and creates a metaphor of the past, occasionally interrupted by nonlinear glimpses into my grandmother’s memories, which all talk of people from her life who had passed.

Graduation Shorts
Tinka Kovačič, a Slovenian artist, is currently based in The Hague, Netherlands. While she started as a graphic designer, her true creative passion now lies within the captivating realms of animation and film.
She was born and raised in Maribor (Slovenia), where she developed a passion for the arts at a young age. Starting her artistic development with a 12-year background in classical ballet, she, later on, shifted her focus to visual arts and pursued formal training in graphic design at The Royal Academy of Art in the Hague.
Alongside her graphic design studies, Tinka has taught herself animation. She has a deep interest in storytelling, editing, and the art of creating moving images. This newfound passion drove her to explore animation further, integrating it into her graduation project Zadnja ura / The Last Hour which was exhibited at the KABK Graduation Show 2023.
Tinka's projects are concept-driven, often drawing inspiration from various fields such as poetry, psychology, and philosophy. This diverse range of influences adds depth and meaning to her work. Additionally, she actively seeks out projects that challenge her and allow her to learn new skills, including ventures into ceramics and illustration.
Tinka's diverse skill set and artistic vision push her to explore the boundaries of what is possible in design, animation, and filmmaking. Her curiosity and passion fuel her creativity and inspire her to keep developing her artistic practice further.
In this film, I embarked on the creation of a unique animation style that sets apart from my previous work capturing a soft and personal ambiance. To enrich the storytelling, I blended mixed media elements like photographs, objects, and stories, derived from my family’s personal archives, which my grandmother so graciously shared.
An open conversation on this topic becomes a vessel through which we can process grief, find solace in shared experiences, and honor the interconnectedness of our collective human narrative. I aim to create a space where grief becomes a catalyst for healing, where memories transcend the boundaries of time, and where the essence of our departed loved ones finds solace in the ever-evolving tapestry of existence.
