Director Biography - Edo Natasha

Born and raised in Semarang, Indonesia, Edo Natasha is Indonesian American filmmaker and a combat veteran who has directed and edited a variety of short-form pilots and independent works. A graduate of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences 2024 Gold Rising Program, he is currently attending Los Angeles Film School while mentored by a network of working industry director-editor, such as Mark Helfrich (Predator, Rush Hour, Red One).

Director Statement

“The Last Fifteen Minutes” is a dramatic study of traditional directing that discusses the clash between collectivism and individualism in the modern interracial marriage. This film intimately examines Sekar’s yearning for freedom from conservative cultural expectations, speaking on the silent desire that many individuals around the world continue to experience. In a time where many dramas are subversions of the typical genre, this film stays true to the dramatic structure; we delve into the darkness of Sekar and Robert’s marriage to reach what is at once a harmonious emotional conclusion and a transcendence beyond culture.

Filmed completely in two 8-hour days, this dramatic short is a testament to the power of a small but skillful crew in making competent, cost-effective, and time-efficient work even at the student level. The director and cinematographer worked closely together to use traditional methods of intuitive blocking and fluid camera movement to tell the story within a limited physical space that honors both the script and the actors’ instincts. Inspired by live theater, the director and actors experimented freely and rehearsed thoroughly before filming, with the emphasis on “creating” truly organic moments between the actors rather than by relying on the shot itself. Miniscule but mighty, this Indonesia-meets-America intercultural film highlights strong leadership in every role, a team of truly diverse ages, ethnicities, and levels of experience.
