Writer Biography - Tyler Feingold, Avi Garg

What makes us different? Engineers turned scriptwriters. Coming from technical backgrounds, we are skilled at reading, writing, reviewing, and presenting descriptive material. We attended public school until 9th grade when we both got accepted into the #1 STEM high school in the United States at the time, High Technology High School. From there we went to state college and then entered the workforce experiencing both public and private sector jobs as part of the Department of Defense and the Big 4 accounting firms.

The more we thought about it, the more we realized our real interest was in TV, not engineering. We thoroughly enjoyed the chance to spend a lot of time — maybe years — with a set group of characters. Feature writers take a lot more meetings and tinker with the same script for a huge chunk of time. With TV, you have to be able to get work done fast so it can be filmed a couple weeks later. We have plenty of experience with that kind of pace due to our painstaking background, so it was more appealing to us. More importantly, we will contribute fresh trends and eyes for detail, coupled with a can-do attitude to any comedy staff writing team. Being ready to go the extra mile, showing initiative and not waiting to be asked to do something have really made us stand out. We both know how imperative it is to be proactive and take initiative. Hence, our leadership roles in industry and in our communities have highlighted these qualities. We will not wait to be asked our opinion to actively engage and truly embrace the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity we have been given.

Writer Statement

Even when traveling abroad to Europe and Asia, it was incredible to see how television still proved to be a common ground amongst new friends. We have meticulously researched the film industry within over the past ten years, spending thousands of hours studying script formatting, industry standards, and the content which makes viewers like ourselves come back for more, and the structure of the business. However, we are still eager to learn from knowledgeable mentors and bounce ideas off other experienced writers.

Television has transcended culture, religion, and politics to provide common ground between people who may not agree on anything else besides how funny their favorite TV character is. Coming from secure, stable jobs, we have mentally prepared ourselves for the mercurial nature of the television industry. The idea of being able to work on something that brings people joy on a daily basis has driven us to pursue this goal whole-heartedly. We have made a decision to take a risk, possibly one of the biggest risks we have taken in our lives.

We have made it clear to each other that we are ready to move to California and leave everything that is comfortable and known behind for new, exciting careers. In TV, the writers write. Feature writers take a lot more meetings and tinker with the same script for a huge chunk of the time. We will contribute fresh trends and eyes for detail, coupled with a can-do attitude to any comedy staff writing team.

The way that a story is told holds a lot of power, especially in an age where screens are in front of us for most the day and now, for most of our lives. But with that power, good can be done. Just being from a culturally diverse background no longer makes someone special. Being able to show a kid, however, that a hero can be anyone? Now, that takes someone special.
