The Journey of Souba

Bakary was born in Harlem, New York but raised all over the world. He spent his childhood between the bright lights of New York City and the tough streets of Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast). As a teen, he bounced around in three countries (United States, Mali, France) adapting to different cultures and learning by trial and error.

He graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Sustainable Urban Environments.

Bakary began his career at General Motors working at the intersection of engineering and business. As a Technical Program Manager, he defined and contributed to the development of sustainable urban mobility. He continues on his quest to provide access, recently shifting his career from automotive to technology. Bakary is now advocating for user privacy at Google as a privacy program manager.

Bakary’s personal mission is to Innovate by making things, to Contribute by fixing problems and help others through Storytelling. He’s passionate about the intersection between technology and his mission. In essence, Bakary is committed to providing access to people who seek it and need it.
