The "Innova Patrimonio" project
Innova Patrimonio, financed by Lazio Region, aims at the tourist enhancement of the peripheral territory through technological innovation and original storytelling. A collaboration has been established among a research institute, CNR ISPC, a theatre, Teatro Potlach, and some creative companies of Lazio Region, in Italy. The activities of CNR focus on the conception of an innovative narrative model of the territory and its assets, in particular of ancient villages, fragile places where many things seem to be lost. This is also the case of Fara in Sabina, located between Rome and Rieti, where today less than 200 residents live, and which is the subject of this experimentation. The traditional descriptive approach of itineraries and monuments is replaced by a dramaturgical representation of stories, ways of life and imaginary dimensions that constitute the unique character and the deep life of a village. This hidden soul is shaped by a convergence of theatrical and cinematographic practices, acting, virtual reconstructions, mixed reality environments, projection mapping. Not only experts of Cultural Heritage, screenwriters, directors and professional actors have been involved, but also the local inhabitants, who have played an active role both in the creation and in the representation of the stories. The project has been developed during the pandemic period of Covid-19 and it has represented a challenge to experiment new educational, creative and methodological processes, addressed to inhabitants, students, tourists, creative companies and scientific institutions working in the valorization of Cultural Heritage, with a notable impact also in terms of increased social cohesion.

Eva Pietroni is Senior Researcher at the Institute of Heritage Science of the national Research Council (ISPC-CNR), conservator of Cultural Heritage, art historian and musician. Her research concerns virtual museums and museum technologies, user experience design, digitization, virtual reconstructions, virtual reality and new forms of narration and interaction based on the hybridization of media. Research into the perceptual and cognitive aspects of cultural transmission is constantly supported by surveys to assess the public's experience of digital applications offered in museums.
She is also a director of documentaries distributed by the Italian national Television (Rai 3 - Geo).
Pino Di Buduo graduated in Philosophy at the University of Rome La Sapienza and for two years was assistant for both the two chairs of Cultural Anthropology and Popular Tradition. In 1975 he participated to a international workshop for actors in Denmark at the Odin Theatre directed by Eugenio Barba. In 1976 he founded the Teatro Potlach in Fara Sabina (Italy) with Daniela Regnoli, where he still now works actively as artistic director. He carries out an intense artistic activity of performance production, of special projects, of Festivals. He created the Project “Città Invisibili” (Invisible Cities) on the theme of the city and the memory of the place, that has an international diffusion still active today.
This project has been realized during the pandemic Covid-19 in the small historical village where we live. It was a wonderful experience to share this experience with professional actors and with local inhabitant who entered the stories and contributed to their conception. We worked around the concept of wonder, beauty and social cohesion. For us it was the first experience of direction of this kind of audiovisual.
