The Inescapable

A short film, part drama, part horror, and part fantasy, exploring ideas of friendship, honour, and betrayal, both personally and communally. The effects of one's conscience on oneself and one's clan are investigated as part of the characters' drama. The film follows two Afrikaans prospectors seeking their fortune at the height of the Second Boer War, but what they find goes beyond the horrors of war…

Director Biography - Arné Adriaan Boshoff

Arné Boshoff is a director, writer, editor, and actor living in Pretoria, Gauteng, and grew up in Hartebeespoort. Arné has worked on several short films at The Open Window University. He has made several films and shorts, winning numerous awards at the film school. Some of his earlier and more experimental work can be found on his YouTube channel. Arné got the second-highest mark doing his Honours at the Open Window Institute by producing his first Festival running Short film titled: "Onvermydelik". He spent the entirety of 2020 writing and perfecting the script for his movie. So much so that he decided to star in the project. Due to the film's success at the University, Arné has gotten several offers to write, produce and star in several short films. Arné's career goal is to be a driving force for South Africa's developing film industry.

Director Statement

The film explores a war-ridden South Africa, where the choice is between dying for your people in an unwinnable war and the possibility of a new life in a tamed land. Using this local, historical event as a backdrop, the film also explores the extremes of masculinity and horror that run through it.
