The House on Park Place
Logline: As World War II rages on the East Coast, a wealthy American family, the Mulfords, must fight to save their estate from the clutches of loan sharks, only to find unexpected allies in two German con men who ultimately choose to help them thwart a dangerous U-boat attack.
Synopsis:
It's 1942. Franz Hoover and Karl Fischer, posing as art dealers, infiltrate the Mulford estate during a lavish birthday party for Deidra Mulford, the younger daughter. The Mulford sisters are unaware that their family jewels are hidden in a secret vault within their mansion, a treasure that could save them from their financial troubles. Meanwhile, Mary Mulford, the elder daughter and executor of the estate, is determined to protect her family's legacy and find a way to pay off their debts to the unscrupulous loan shark, Mark Sommers.
As the party unfolds, tensions rise. The guests are oblivious to the danger lurking beneath the surface. Franz and Karl, while initially focused on their heist, find themselves drawn into the Mulfords' plight. They learn of the impending threat from the Nazis, who are planning to attack American ships in the harbor. The con men must decide whether to proceed with their plan or help the Mulfords thwart the German attack.
The climax builds as the party turns into chaos when the German submarines launch their assault on the ships in the harbor. In a twist of fate, Franz and Karl choose to warn the Mulfords and assist in defending the estate. They use their knowledge of the enemy's plans to help the Americans, ultimately leading to a dramatic confrontation between the U-boats and the American forces.
In the aftermath, the Mulfords are left to rebuild their lives, and Franz and Karl must confront the consequences of their choices. The plot ends with the Nazis losing this fight along the lines of the “American Way” and a “Casa Blanca” theme. “Here’s looking at you kid”, sums up the story, as they sail off into the sunset, or in this case, Australia.
